Workspace Xliff Editor may not be the most convenient and user-friendly
CAT-tool to work with. Lack of good tutorials with tips and tricks and how-tos only
make things worse. Still there are some features which can compensate for its limitations.
One of the things I personally have overlooked for a long time was
using Web Lookup. For my language
pairs (English to Russian and German to Russian) an ability to quickly open a
web browser and find a word or a word combination on multitran.ru (its
international version multitran.com is available, so you can check it for other
language combinations as well) without rummaging through a zillion of
open tabs turned out to be very convenient. So, here is a short instruction on
how to set it up. (Click on the screenshots to enlarge them.)
Go to the Tools menu
Select
Web Lookup and click Configure.
Web Lookup Configuration window is displayed
The
last two entries are the ones I added for searching words in English-Russian
and German-Russian dictionaries on multitran.ru. Suppose, we are going to add
an entry for Spanish-Russian.
Press
Add url.
Double-click
on NEW NAME and enter a name for the
new entry.
Go
to multitran.ru, choose Spanish-Russian dictionary and search there for any
word.
Now
copy the address from the address bar. Double click on NEW URL and paste it there.
Substitute
agua in the URL-address with %s and press OK. %s is a placeholder
and it will be substituted with the word or the word combination you will be
searching for.
Normally you'll need to select the text with the mouse and press Ctrl + I in order to search for a particular word, but somehow this does not work for multitran.ru. In this case you'll need to select the text and press Ctrl + C first and then Crtl + I. A browser window will open. Every search term is displayed in a new tab.
